When choosing the right fabric , it’s important that you pick the one that’s going to suit the decor of the room you’ll be displaying your project in. Whether you’re designing an external cover for your couch or a new tablecloth, you don’t want it to clash with everything else in the room!
Another thing to consider when picking the right fabric is to ensure that it is as easy to manipulate as it needs to be for the design. For instance, some fabrics are easier to shape and stitch to suit different purposes. For a tablecloth, a light cotton or silk is usually very suitable, and will display patterns very well. A thick wool will, needless to say, not serve the same purpose!
It’s also important to ensure that it will meet your needs on a practical purpose. If you’re designing a cover for the sofa, it needs to be created from a fabric that is machine washable – after all, avoiding stains is the reason you’re creating a cover in the first place! This is equally as applicable to anything where staining could occur, ie tablecloths, blankets or bedsheets.
Finally, ensure that you always buy from a reputable fabric vendor. If you’re spending your time and effort in creating something that really matters to you, then you deserve to be using the very best materials. If you buy from somewhere of less than reputable quality, then you will quite often notice the difference! Buy from a quality department store, and your projects will always look their best.
